There are as many hoverboard brands as there are hoverboards. Well, maybe not exactly, but it’s getting there – so much so that it warrants its own hoverboard brands review.
Now, depending on what you are looking for, the best hoverboard brand may vary, as will the best self-balancing scooter. If you want to know more about that, you could check out my other review – pretty please!
Anyway, some brands may choose to specialize in specific areas, while others go for a wide array of products. It is the age-old question of quality vs quantity. On this list, I have both.
Some brands are full of products, and some only have a small inventory but a more specialized selection. Here, we will be including the top safest hoverboards and the best Bluetooth hoverboards.
Thus, if you have ever asked yourself, “What are the safest hoverboards to buy?” or simply, “Which is the best hoverboard brand for so and so?” then you have come to the right place.
Some of these brands have been operating for a long time, some have changed their whole identity, and some are as new as the hoverboards themselves. Either way, they are the best of the best currently operating on the market.

Best Hoverboard Brand Full Reviews
You have definitely heard of some of these companies, while others are not so widely known. This is not a list of the most popular hoverboard brands but of the greatest – some big, some small. Either way, all of them have one thing in common – they have something that makes them the best.
1. IOTAtrax Compact Hoverboard – Best Portable Brand
When considering the best hoverboard brand, you simply must talk about IOTAtrax. The company actually started out as a Kickstarter with the ambitious goal of changing up the hoverboard scene. The hoverboard brand, despite still following the basic specs of traditional self-balancing scooters, has done something incredible. Instead of a stiff piece of plastic, they have opted for a foldable and compact design.
The IOTAtrax hoverboard itself has two wheels in the middle and two foldable wings. You control the self-balancing scooter via those wings, and when you are ready to go home, you can simply put them back in place. When the hoverboard is folded, it looks like a rounded bag, which you can carry via a handle on the top. The electric scooter weighs a total of 15 lbs, which is really light especially for a hoverboard.
As for the specs, you will find that they are pretty standard. With a range of 8 miles per charge and a max speed of 6 mph, the hoverboard has all its bases covered. One thing that impresses most people is the charging time. In just an hour, the hoverboard is fully charged and ready to go. What’s more, the electric scooter has a 1000W motor and inflatable 8” wheels.
Now, when you look at the hoverboard, you might think that it doesn’t look very durable, but in actuality, it has a maximum weight limit of 200 lbs, which means it’s perfect for most adults. One thing that bugs me, however, is the expensive price tag the brand puts on its product. I guess when you are the only one on the market who sells portable hoverboards, you can do whatever you want.
Here is an interesting fact for you. The guy who invented this portable hoverboard and also started the IOTAtrax brand is Shane Chen, the same guy that made the first self-balancing scooter – the Hovertrax.
As for the hoverboard brand itself, its parent company is Inventist. This company claims to be inventing the future, but from what I have researched, they need to invent for themselves better customer support.
- Portable
- Innovative
- Bad customer service
2. TOMOLOO – Best Hoverboard Brand for Battery Life
If you’re like me, then you are tired of constantly charging your hoverboard. It can get pretty annoying when you are enjoying a smooth ride and suddenly your battery starts to give out. That’s why I put this hoverboard brand on the list. They may lack in some departments, but TOMOLOO exceeds when it comes to long-lasting batteries.
TOMOLOO has been known to focus on a single feature on each of their electric scooters. They will make one of the best Bluetooth hoverboards, but its speed and range will be less than subpar. Thus, when I found out they had made a self balancing scooter with amazing battery life, I was a bit concerned. To my surprise, however, the hoverboard had no glaring flaws to speak of – mind you, there were still flaws like with any device, but nothing major.
The TOMOLOO hoverboard has a powerful motor that is capable of up to 7 mph and can climb a 15-degree incline. With a range as high as 12 miles, the battery life on this beast is around 4 hours, and its charging time is about 1. Need I say more? This has to be, in my humble opinion, the best battery life in an electric scooter I have ever seen. Consequently, the hoverboard as a whole has some disadvantages like the easily scratched body and the fact that you can only ride this on a smoothly paved road. Despite this, I still think this hoverboard is worth it, and if you are looking for something else TOMOLOO has you covered – most of the time anyway.
They have a large selection of hoverboards, electric bikes, skateboards, and much more. So even if you don’t like a particular model, you will be sure to find something to enjoy. Their website is not the best, but it is decent enough. You won’t have any trouble finding your way.
Their app, however, is an entirely different case. Connectivity issues and poor design make it a terrible waste of time. I still can’t believe why every hoverboard brand has terrible mobile applications. Well, either way, this shouldn’t deter you from giving TOMOLOO a chance.
- Amazing battery life
- Large selection of products
- Awful mobile app
3. Jetson – Best Hoverboard Brand for Off-Road Adventures
Jetson is one of those hoverboard brands that you have definitely heard of, even if you don’t know it. The company has a large selection of self-balancing scooters, hoverkarts, and even accessories. Their products, such as the Jetson Aero All-Terrain Hoverboard, have been featured on the news.
The Jetson hoverboard brand mainly focuses on off-road electric scooters, and this is evident by their best-selling product the Jetson Aero, which I called the lights all-terrain hoverboard in my off-road review.
The electric scooter itself has a really light feel to it and a slim design. It has a pair of 6.5-inch rubber tires and a 300-Watt dual motor which can push to a top speed of 7 miles per hour with a 7-mile range per charge. With a weight limit of 220 lbs, this hoverboard will fit most adults.
If for some reason the Aero does not suit your need, Jetson may have many more off-road hoverboards to choose from. This includes the Plasma Luminous All-Terrain Hoverboard which is entirely covered in a flowing LED pattern as well as their own portable self-balancing scooter.
I have to say that as a brand, Jetson has both quality and quantity, and from what I could tell, their customer service is decent enough. What’s more, most of their products have amazing Bluetooth speakers. The Aero, however, is an exception. This particular hoverboard lacks a pair or even a single speaker, so forget about blasting your favorite tunes in the woods.
Then there is the Jetson app, called Ride Jetson, which is really bad. It disconnects randomly, and all in all, it’s in a poor state – not to mention that the interface is one of the worst I have seen. However, even with all that, I would still highly recommend this candidate for the best hoverboard brands. That is simply because when it comes down to it, Jetson makes great electric scooters for an affordable price.
- Affordable
- Large selection of quality products
- Terrible mobile app
4. GOTRAX – Best Hoverboard Brand with Bluetooth Features
GOTRAX is a company that has been in the electric world for some time now. They sell everything from hoverboards to electric bikes and even their own merch. Their goal is to change the future with electric commuting. I have to say their website and just the way they present themselves are very professional – actually one of the most professional looking brands in the hoverboard world.
Their products are also top tier as is their Bluetooth. All of the manufacturers on my hoverboard brands review have amazing speakers, but the GOTRAX SRX A6 could be considered the best Bluetooth hoverboard out there.
The self-balancing scooter has a very slick-looking design with a pair of rugged tires which are perfect for road, dirt, and grass. The GOTRAX SRX can travel with a top speed of 6.5 miles per hour at a maximum range of 4 miles. The 400-watt motor pushes this electric scooter to its limit. As for the lithium ion battery, it takes around 3 hours to fully charge, which is pretty standard, and it lasts for about 50–60 minutes.
Then there is the weight limit of 220 lbs, meaning adults are more than safe to try this hoverboard with Bluetooth as well. Speaking of, the sound coming from the electric scooter is crisp and clear with just the right amount of bass.
If for some reason the GOTRAX SRX does not suit your needs, well then you are in luck because this is a company that has an astonishingly wide array of products. What’s even more amazing is that most of their products are extremely budget-friendly, especially the hoverboard section. Their products are available on many major marketplaces and retailers including Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and many independent dealers. Thus, you don’t have to search before you find what you are looking for.
There is also the app, which is decent enough, but I personally would have preferred a better user interface. Now, as a whole, the brand looks professional. They make good products that are available worldwide and have an average app. However, you will notice that they have a 3.0 rating on Trustpilot, and that is for one simple reason – their customer service seems to be a bit lacking. Even if that’s the case, you cannot deny the quality of their products.
- Amazing Bluetooth speaker
- Professional image
- Poor customer service
5. Megawheels – Safest Hoverboard Brand
Have you ever wondered what the safest hoverboards are to buy? Megawheels is a company that has been in the electric world for 7 years now. Their products include hoverboards, electric bikes, electric scooters, and accessories. Before becoming one of the top safest hoverboard brands, they used to sell electric products by the name of JIALIKE.
Their products, especially the hoverboards, feature a wide array of safety features including non-slip pads, great self-balancing technology, and much more.
The Megawheels’ hoverboard is a budget-friendly option for a wonderful gift. If you are worried your kid might fall and hurt themselves from a hoverboard, then I would recommend you to take a look at this electric scooter.
Other than that, the hoverboard is powered by two 250-Watt motors that can push it to a top speed of 7 mph with a range of 12 miles per charge. When you plug it in, it will take about 2–3 hours before the battery is fully charged, which is pretty reasonable for such a long range. It also has a max load of 220 lbs and great Bluetooth speakers.
However, their selection of self-balancing scooters is a bit lacking, so if for some reason you do not like the Megawheels’ hoverboard, you won’t get many other options.
As far as I am aware, the company does not have an app, which I guess is not the end of the world. Then there is the issue of their website. While not bad per se, it’s not really that good either, and in my humble opinion, it is due for a remodeling.
There is, however, one glaring issue that I cannot overlook. The hoverboard brand has a 2.9 rating on Trustpilot, and that is for one simple reason. There have been delays with the deliveries, which considering when those reviews were written *cough* 2020 *cough,* it is understandable, but I thought I still needed to mention it.
- Safety first
- Budget-friendly
- Long delivery time
6. Halo Board – Premium Hoverboard Brand
If you are willing to splurge a little bit, then I have the perfect option for you. Halo Board is a premium company that sells hoverboards and boosted boards, although their selection is a little bit limited. They started as a small start-up in LA, way back 2005, and since then have grown to successful and widely publicized businesses. Even celebrities such as Jamie Fox and Martha Stewart have been seen using their products.
So what do I get with such a premium brand? You may be asking yourself.
Well, the Official Halo Rover X Hoverboard 8.5″ is an all-terrain electric scooter with a pair of 8.5-inch Indestructible Never-Flat Tires and 800-Watt electric power motor. The motor can push to a top speed of 10 mph and up a 20-degree incline. The hoverboard has a range of 10 miles per charge with a charging time of 2.5 hours. The electric scooter has a weight limit of 260 lbs, making it perfect for adults. Much more than that, just this one product has a ton of other features, such as the three training modes which you can use depending on how good you are.
If for some reason the Rover X does not suit your needs, you are out of luck. The company doesn’t have many products, but those they do have are of the highest quality. It’s the age-old question of quantity vs quality.
The Halo Board brand has a modern, easy-to-use website and an app that has a decent user interface but lacks some necessary features. Then there is the major issue with customer service. There have been reports that their customer service is a bit lacking – although it’s not the worst there is, it’s certainly not the best either.
All in all, the Halo Board is a hoverboard brand that prioritizes the quality of its product above anything else.
- Quality is a priority
- Great website
- Not many product options
7. XPRIT – Best Budget Hoverboard Brand
Now, if you are not willing to splurge a little bit and are in fact on a budget, XPRIT is the brand for you. The company is Canadian-based, and it provides the best cheap hoverboards – period.
They have a wide range of products, including hoverboards, electric bikes, hand sanitizer dispensers, and much more – I feel like one of those doesn’t belong. Either way, you will find what you are looking for on their website.
As for the XPRIT 8.5″ Off-Road Self-Balancing Scooter, it simply is the best off-road hoverboard for the money. If you want to find more, you can take a little look at the most adventurous self-balancing scooters.
The XPRIT 8.5″ Off-Road Self Balancing Scooter has a pair of 8.5-inch solid rubber tires that can make most terrains feel like a smooth ride. Along with its 250W dual motor, you can push to a top speed of 6 miles per hour and climb a slope at a 15-degree incline. The range is also 6 miles, and the battery takes around 3 hours to fully charge. Then there is the weight limit – 264 pounds is the maximum load the hoverboard can handle, but the maximum recommended weight limit is around 198 pounds, so take that under consideration.
Now onto the website. Honestly, it is not my favorite. The website looks cluttered, and although it is easy to navigate, the user interface is kinda bad. One thing that actually impressed me is that you can look at how much the hoverboard costs in your own currency, no longer will you be converting from euros or dollars. If you live outside one of the major economic powers, you know how helpful this is.
If there is one more issue that I haven’t talked about – and no it is not customer service, it’s that they have no app. So if you want to connect XPRIT to your phone, you will have to use a third-party application.
- Affordable
- Large selection of products
- No mobile app
8. EPIKGO – Premium All-Terrain Brand
If you are an off-road junky, and you are looking for something more premium, the EPIKGO might satisfy your lust. The hoverboard brand has a large selection of products in different categories, such as the sports, premier, and classic series – although their price does not vary much. The brand’s goal is to provide a much safer and more fun off-road adventure. Honestly speaking with their EPIKGO Premier, I think they have succeeded.
The hoverboard has a 400-watt dual motor which is capable of up to 10 miles per hour and can climb a 30-degree incline. Not to mention that this is the fastest-accelerating self-balancing scooter on the market. Its range is as high as 12 miles, and it takes around 1–2 hours to fully charge – so yes, premium quality. As for the tires, they are 8.5-inch all-weather and can take you through most terrain.
Honestly, all three series, the classic, premier, and sport, have their own unique features. For example, the sport has a gyroscopic motor that effortlessly adjusts to the simple movements of your weight as well as tires optimized for performance, while the classic has the most durability.
Navigating their website is also extremely easy – it’s clean, simple, and, most importantly, it has a great user interface. While they do not have many products available, those they have are of the highest quality.
The only major issue I have with EPIKGO is their app. The app has a 1.5 rating on Apple’s app store, and it isn’t even on Google Play. While the mobile looks decent enough and the user interface is top tier, it looks as if the app won’t connect to your hoverboard most of the time, so you will have to opt for a third-party one. Personally, I don’t care that much about the mobile application, but I realize it can make or break a product for some people.
- High-quality products
- Great website
- Terrible mobile app
9. Swagtron – Best Hoverboard Brand for Kids
If you are looking to buy a gift for your little devil, then I would highly recommend Swagtron as a brand – more specifically the Swagtron T1 hoverboard. I will talk a little about it in a minute, but if you want a more detailed review, check out my best hoverboards for kids list – shameless self-promotion.
Swagtron is a brand that focuses on safety and fun. They take extra steps to ensure their products are as safe as possible while still providing a fun experience.
The Swagtron T1 hoverboard has a 250-watt dual motor that is capable of up to 8 miles per hour and 6.5″ solid rubber tires. It has a range that goes as high as 11 miles per charge. As for the charging time – it’s around 1 hour. With those stats, I would have to say this is one of the better batteries on the market. The hoverboard, like most of their products, has a learning mode as well as a safe stop feature for extra safety.
Then there is the company itself. They sell a wide array of products, including electric scooters, normal skateboards – it feels weird that I have to specify that – accessories, and even their own merch. Although their website is a bit cluttered, their customer support is top tier and should be held as a gold standard to all the others.
Let’s go to the mobile application. Sadly, Swagtron is not the one to break the curse of bad hoverboard apps. The application is mediocre at best. While it has a decent user interface, it lacks features and has connectivity issues, of course.
I would say that Swagtron as a brand ranks pretty high on my list, but it’s not the best. There’s still one more to go – one that has been around since the beginning.
- Safe and fun
- Large selection of products
- Amazing customer service
- Bad mobile app
10. Razor – Best Hoverboard Brand Overall
Yes, if you know anything about self-balancing scooters, I’m sure you saw this coming. Razor is by far the most popular and widely known hoverboard brand out there. In fact, if you are curious about them, I would definitely recommend you to check out my best self-balancing scooters review.
Razor is a brand that you have definitely heard of and seen even if you don’t know it. They are world famous, and they were one of the very first hoverboard brands. Hell, they even produce their own video content.
As for their most popular product, it’s the Hovertrax 2.0. It has a silent, 350W dual motor that is capable of up to 8 miles per hour. It also has a range of 8 miles per charge and removable batteries, so if one runs out, you can bring a spare, essentially doubling the range and battery life.
Likewise, Razor is a company that doesn’t simply rely on one product. Instead, it has a wide range of hoverboards, accessories, and anything other than electric rides. With so many products to choose from, it stands to reason that Razor has something for everyone. If you like to be in the spotlight, then try the Hovertrax X-Ray. Likewise, if you are tired of riding just on two wheels, check out their electric quad bikes. This will be pretty easy to do, as their site is user-friendly and even has its own aesthetic, definitely one of the better ones on this list. Also, their 24/7 customer support will respond to your request professionally and in a timely manner.
Now, onto the curse of the mobile application, even Razor is not immune. While they do have a decent app and certainly the best among this list, it still has 3.5 on google play and 2.5 on the app store. Bugs and connectivity issues plague the application, especially the iOS one, but at this point, that is to be expected. It still does not detract from the best hoverboard brand out there.
- Quality and quantity
- Great website
- Amazing customer service
- Mediocre mobile app
Best Hoverboard Brand Buyer’s Guide
With so many hoverboard brands, it can get a little bit confusing – especially when most of those have both good and bad products, not to mention terrible mobile apps.
So it is important to know what to look for. Don’t worry, I am here to help as best I can, because depending on what you want, your buying experience may vary greatly.
Speed
If you are looking for something with more oomph to it, you would need, first and foremost, a good motor as well as a good battery and even tires. All of these are factors that go into the speed of a hoverboard.
The average speed of self-balancing scooters is from 3 to 10 miles per hour, so you will be looking for something above that. If you are buying something above 10 mph, make sure the hoverboard has good tires. The faster you go, the more dangerous uneven or bumpy terrain becomes, even if you are on a smooth road. A rock or a twig might be enough to send you flying if you don’t have good tires.
You also need to consider the battery. How strong is it? You see, hoverboards are electric vehicles which means no matter how strong the motor is, if the battery is weak, you won’t be going very fast. Look for something with a long range, preferably longer than the maximum speed, as well as a short charging time. A decent hoverboard should give you a range of 7 to 12 miles and a charging time of 1 to 3 hours.
All of these factors will determine how fast a hoverboard is, or you can always look at a review and see what the guy who is writing this has to say. That’s always an option.
Battery Life
The battery life will determine your total range per charge. Earlier, I mentioned that a decent hoverboard can give you a range of 7 to 12 miles. While that may seem like a small number, you must remember that these devices are not meant for long-distance travel. Instead, they are fun toys to ride around the neighborhood with.
However, the advertised battery life may not be the battery life you see on your device. That is because different factors like the speed, the weather, the rider’s weight, the terrain, the hill incline, and even the humidity will have an effect on the battery’s life as a whole.
Luckily, most hoverboards have this nifty little LED light called a battery indicator, which will tell you how long the self-balancing scooter has before it goes kaput. You can also check on the mobile app if it is good enough, although I somehow doubt that.
Weight Capacity
Different hoverboards are designed for people with different weights. Some with a lower weight limit may be more geared toward children, while some with a higher weight capacity might be meant for adults. So you should buy a self-balancing scooter that can support your weight. However, this does not mean that if you weigh 220 lbs, you should buy a 220 lbs one. That would mean pushing the hoverboard to its limit and might be a bit dangerous. Instead, you should look for one with 260 lbs, for example.
Some brands even have a maximum weight limit and a recommended one, with the recommended maximum capacity being lower, of course.
Now, if you are buying one for your kid, it’s a good idea to look at ones with a larger weight limit instead of a lower one. My reasoning is that your child will keep on growing bigger and stronger – I mean look at them! I bet their socks from last year don’t fit them anymore.
Tires
Most hoverboards have a tire size ranging from 6.5 inches to 10 inches in diameter. The wheels, apart from being a factor in speed and safety, will also determine what kind of hoverboard you are buying.
Larger wheels generally mean that the self-balancing scooter is great for going on an off-road adventure, while smaller-sized tires should stay on the smoothly paved road. What’s more, bigger tires generally mean that the electric scooter, as a whole, is larger. So choose carefully.
The size of the wheels will also determine the ease of use, weight capacity, and the board’s stability. Generally, it is accepted that if you are a new rider, you should go with the smaller tires. That is also true if you want to learn cool tricks and flips.
Thus, if you are looking for something you can take with you while camping, then you should go with larger tires. They will make sure of a smooth ride no matter how rough the terrain is.
Closing Remarks
There are many hoverboards and hoverboard brands out there. While generally, most manufacturers have a wide variety of electric scooters, some are more focused on a single feature, like off-roading, for example, or being kid-friendly.
You can see if you like any of the brands on this list or simply look at some not mentioned here. Remember these are just my recommended hoverboard brands and the ones I think are the best.
Something else that is also really important is your budget. Bigger hoverboards with more features will be more expensive. While the more budget-friendly might not be exactly what you are looking for, in that case, it is important to compare everything and look for the best budget hoverboard.
In the end, while I may think these are the best hoverboard brands, you might disagree with me, and that is totally fine. I am not here to tell you what to do, simply to inform you as best as possible while hoping you find what you are looking for.
