Just because most hoverboards are marketed toward children, doesn’t mean that adults can’t enjoy them as well. In fact, I have a lot to say about top-rated hoverboards, most of which both kids and adults can enjoy. For the moment, if you are looking for the best hoverboard for adults, well, you have come to the right place, my friend.
Although self-balancing scooters have been around for a while, only recently has their popularity truly exploded. More and more people are getting into this hobby, most of which are adults. Why shouldn’t they? Hoverboards are a fun, clean method of transportation that does not require much effort, that is, when you learn to ride them.
Speaking from experience, that second part is a bit difficult, and you will find yourself on the ground more often than not. Luckily, some brands have you covered with amazing safety and training features, although I will briefly touch upon this for each hoverboard on this list. I have another review about self-balancing scooter brands that go into more detail, so if you are interested I would recommend taking a look.
As for the hoverboard for adults review, I have put some brands you know and some you have never heard of, but each of these is designed to be great at something and deserves to be considered the best.

Best Hoverboard for Adults Full Reviews
Ever asked yourself, “What’s the best hoverboard for adults?” No? Well I am going to answer anyway. Actually, I am sure you already know the answer to the question, but you don’t know why, and you don’t know about all the other devices that can be considered a good-quality hoverboard for adults, which might be perfect for you personally.
1. EPIKGO Self-Balancing Scooter – Best Hoverboard for Long-Distance Travel
The EPIKGO hoverboard has a luxurious design and a tough exterior. It has a pair of 8.5-inch solid rubber tires which are weatherproof and can go over any terrain, ensuring a smooth ride.
The hoverboard has a maximum weight limit of 240 lbs and is extremely durable with its aluminum frame and ABS chassis, so even if you are the more adventurous type, you can rest assured that the device will last you a long time. You can also rest assured knowing that the company prioritizes safety. In fact, this is one of the safer hoverboards you can currently buy.
With its self-balancing technology, you will have a hard time falling down, and with its water resistance and UL2272 certification, you know it has been through vigorous testing to provide a safer kind of experience.
Other than that, the EPIKGO hoverboard has a 400-watt dual motor which is capable of up to 10 miles per hour, can climb a 30-degree incline, and is the fastest accelerating self-balancing scooter. Now this may be the fastest accelerating electric scooter, but it is not the fastest out there – no, that honor goes to someone else, someone who deserves the title of fastest hoverboard.
Then there is the battery life that can last a little over an hour for a total range of 12 miles, while charging time is about 1–2 hours – definitely one of the longest range and battery life on this list.
You can, of course, keep track of the battery via the LED indicator or by the mobile app, which, to be honest, is not that great. However, the bluetooth is pretty decent, and I would definitely like to blast some Amon Amarth.
- Amazing range and battery life
- Fast
- Durable
- Awful mobile app
2. Jetson Aero Hoverboard – Lightest Off-Road Hoverboard for Adults
The Jetson Aero All-Terrain Hoverboard is incredibly light and can support a maximum weight capacity of 220 lbs. Its design is minimalistic and simply screams lightweight.
At only 19 lbs, it is the lightest self-balancing scooter I have ever seen, and honestly, I am in love and so are two of my best friends, Sav and Mira. I decided a second or third opinion won’t hurt, so I got a little help with some of the electric scooters.
The self-balancing scooter has a pair of 6.5-inch rubber tires which can make the roughest terrain feel like a smooth ride. Likewise, its 300-watt dual motor can push to a top speed of 7 miles per hour with a 7 mile range per charge.
Sadly, it does not have a Bluetooth speaker, but I was told to let you know that it has some pretty LED wheels.
When it comes to safety, this hoverboard for adults has you covered with its smart self-balancing technology which uses internal sensors to keep you level and stable. It also comes with a rear brake when you need to come to a sudden stop. Of course, it needs not a mention, but the hoverboard has a UL2272 certification.
If you are anything like me, you like to travel light. In fact you will buy a product just because it reduces some weight, for example, a really lightweight gaming mouse or as it is a hoverboard. I doubt I am alone in this. I also always like to play the fast-moving, dash-and-slash kind of characters in games. If you know, you know, and if you do, this easy-to-use hoverboard is for you.
- Incredibly lightweight
- Easy use
- Safe
- No Bluetooth
3. Swagtron Swagboard Pro T1 Hoverboard – Best Hoverboard for All-Around Riding
As a wise man once said to me, “This hoverboard is shaggadelic, baby!” and they were not wrong. If we are judging on a scale of 1 to shaggadelic, the Swagtron T1 definitely leans toward the latter. The self-balancing scooter has a simple design that you simply can’t help but like.
The hoverboard has a maximum weight capacity of 220 lbs. It has solid rubber tires and a 250-watt dual motor. The hoverboard can climb at a 30-degree incline and has a maximum speed of 8 miles per hour. Its range can be as high as 11 miles, and the battery only takes an hour to fully charge.
Now, onto arguably the most important part – safety. The Swagtron T1 has to be one of the safest hoverboards to buy.
There are two modes, a learning one and a standard one. The former limits your max speed until you have become a hoverboard master, while the other is, well, standard. Of course, it is UL-certified, but it also has something called a “Sentry Shield Battery” which monitors and protects the battery from overheating. What’s more, this hoverboard for adults has something called a “Safe Stop Technology,” which means that if you suddenly find yourself spinning out of control, the electric scooter will automatically come to a slow and steady stop. It’s definitely worth the buy if your main concern is safety.
There is also a decent Bluetooth speaker, so you know I will be blasting some badass tunes.
In the end, I believe this is the perfect gift for your favorite loved one, even if that loved one is yourself. The hoverboard is extremely safe and fun to ride, even though its speed is a bit slow. I would definitely give this one a go.
- Super safe
- Great range
- Great battery
- Slow speed
4. TOMOLOO – Best Hoverboard for Kids
Bet you didn’t expect this plot twist, right? I thought I needed to put this here just in case, but if you want to find out more about the best hoverboards for kids, I would recommend teleporting yourself to this link. What you don’t know is that the TOMOLOO hoverboard has a minimalistic design that, in all honesty, looks great.
As for the TOMOLOO electric scooter itself, it has a cool design, and it can handle a maximum weight limit of 220 lbs. Its motor power is not the best, and at most, it is capable of only 7.5 miles per hour as well as a maximum range of 4.3 miles per charge. Its slow speed and limited range mean it’s perfect for younger kids who are still falling every time they run.
A great feature of this hoverboard that both adults and kids can enjoy is its amazing Bluetooth speaker. It has a crispy clean audio and decent bass. Trust me, after buying these self-balancing scooters, my neighbors hate me more than they already did.
Now, being a hoverboard for kids and all, TOMOLOO does not skip on its safety features. In fact, they are known as one of the safer hoverboard brands out there. The electric scooter is water-resistant, and it is, of course, UL-certified. It also has silicon non-slip footpads for that extra protection as well as smart self-balancing technology and an acceleration sensor which are designed to optimize your riding experience.
In the end, if you are an adult who is looking for a gift that will suit a young child, then give this hoverboard a consideration. I know my little niece loves it.
- Amazing Bluetooth speaker
- Perfect gift for kids
- Safe
- Slow speed
- Short range
5. Xprit – Best Budget Hoverboard for Adults
The Xprit Off-Road Hoverboard could be considered a cheaper version of the EPIKGO. It has a slim design which makes its tires look larger than they are.
This budget-friendly self-balancing scooter has a pair of 8.5-inch solid rubber tires that can take you through the gravel, sand, and most terrain, not to mention it can climb a slope with a 15-degree incline. This hoverboard for adults is well built with a maximum weight limit of 264 lbs; however, the manufacturer has a maximum recommended weight capacity of 198 lbs, so you can decide for yourself if it’s worth it.
The self-balancing scooter has a 250-watt dual motor with a top speed of 6 miles per hour and a range of 6 miles. The charging time is nothing great, as it can take up to 3 hours to completely fill up the battery life. So at times, you might find yourself spending more time charging than actually using the hoverboard.
At least it has a Bluetooth speaker ,so you can play your favorite Spotify playlist. However, it doesn’t have an app, which at this point is an advantage when compared to the hoverboards that have one. If you are confused as to what I am talking about, you probably haven’t seen my best hoverboard brand review.
The Xprit self-balancing scooter may not have some more extraordinary safety features, but it is UL-certified, and it has smart, safe balancing technology, which in my opinion is more than enough.
In the end, I would say that this is a great-budget friendly hoverboard for anyone – adult or child.
- Budget-friendly
- Great for adults and kids
- No app
6. Segway Ninebot S Electric Transporter – Best Hoverboard for Adult Commuting
The Segway Ninebot S Electric Transporter is a unique kind of hoverboard in that it has a large stick sticking out of its middle. That stick is mainly used for stirring with your knees, for extra control and safety, although some might find it a bit annoying. You can also use it to carry the self-balancing scooter wherever you go. Personally, I use it for both, and if you buy an attachment which you may find here, you can turn it into a go-kart, and then the stick acts as a steering wheel.
Other than that, this hoverboard for adults has a 400-watt dual motor that is capable of a top speed of 10 mph as well as an almost 14-mile range, not to mention it can climb up to a 15-degree incline. It can handle a maximum weight of 220 lbs, perfect for the average adult, and even though it looks heavy, it’s actually on the lighter side, so you can carry it wherever you go.
Then there is the battery which is amazing, and it will last you much longer than just a single hour. Its charging time is also pretty decent. You can, of course, track the battery life via the app which has an anti-theft function, speed sensor, vehicle self-diagnose, firmware upgrade, Ambient Light, vehicle remote control, and much more. I have to say this is one of the better ones out there.
The hoverboard is also great for safety; it is of course UL-certified and has a water resistance level of IP54. The battery also has an extra layer of protection, and all around, the self-balancing scooter is sturdy and durable – not to mention that the anti-theft function might come in handy.
- Lightweight
- Safe
- Great battery
- Divisive design
7. VIRO Rides Free-Style Hoverboard – Best Hoverboard for Snowboarders
The VIRO Rides Free-Style hoverboard has a unique design – the two wheels, instead of being on either end, are placed in the middle. Yes, exactly like a snowboard.
This hoverboard for adults has a not-that-powerful motor which can push it to a maximum speed of 7 miles per hour, while its rugged tires will ensure a smooth ride. As for range, it’s a bit disappointing with only 6.5 miles per charge.
Other than that, the self-balancing scooter can handle a maximum weight of 220 lbs and a minimum of 55 lbs, perfect for the average adult. What’s even more surprising is that this hoverboard is extremely lightweight, but so far, it is looking as if that and the unique design are its only quality features – well, that and the fact that it has a LED display which you can use to track the speed and battery life.
Then there are the unique LED lights on both ends, which will pull when the device is not moving. Likewise, when you are turning, they will light up in the given direction. That’s actually a pretty good feature that I am surprised more hoverboards don’t have.
Sadly, you can’t track the battery via the mobile app because it doesn’t have one. But you can still blast your favorite tunes via the Bluetooth speaker.
As for safety, the self-balancing scooter for adults is UL-certified and has some extra foot control. Apart from that, the water resistance is nonexistent.
Now, the price is nothing like the EPIKGO, but I would not exactly call it budget-friendly. For what it’s going to be, you can find better versions of this one. Still, if you are someone who is used to snowboarding and this is your first hoverboard, I think you will find this one a lot easier to use than the others.
- Unique design
- Unique LED lights
- LED dashboard
- Slow speed
- Short range
- No app
8. Swagtron T6 Off-Road Hoverboard – Best Weight Capacity in a Hoverboard for Adults
The Swagtron T6 off-road hoverboard could be considered, by every definition of the word, a beast. This is a big self-balancing scooter, big and heavy. It has a simple design with two big LED lights on the front. The hoverboard is great and all, but if it dies on you during a trip, you won’t be able to carry it back home by yourself.
It has a pair of 10-inch rubber shock-absorbent tires, which are reinforced with alloy steel and are nylon-infused. They can travel across any terrain, no matter what – gravel, rocks, mud, you name it. It has a 300-watt dual motor with a top speed of 12 miles per hour and can push up a 30-degree incline.
The Swagtron self-balancing scooter also has a maximum range of 12 miles per charge. You can monitor the battery levels via the indicator or simply by the mobile app as well. It also has a charging time of 2–3 hours which is not ideal, but considering, it is well worth the wait.
Apart from checking the battery levels, you can also use the mobile app to see the distance traveled and your current speed and, of course, play music on the Bluetooth speaker.
Then there is the fact that this hoverboard can support adults of up to 420 lbs or a maximum of 6 children although I would not recommend that.
That’s not all because for the Swagtron T6, safety is a priority. The hoverboard is of course UL-certified and has smart self-balancing technology. It is also water-resistant, and the battery has the Sentry Shield protection system.
- Powerful motor
- Stable
- Shock-absorbent rugged tires
- Heavy
- Bluetooth could be improved
9. Halo Rover X – Best Hoverboard for Adults Runner-Up
The Halo Rover X all-terrain hoverboard could have easily taken the number one spot on this list, but there is one more hoverboard that I believe is better in almost every regard. As for the Rover X, it has a luxurious design similar to the EPIKGO as well as a similar luxurious price.
This particular hoverboard for adults can support a weight range from 44 lbs to 260 lbs. It has a pair of 8.5-inch rugged tires which are designed for even the most uneven terrain out there – gravel, sand, you name it. Likewise, its 400-watt dual motor can push to a top speed of 10 miles per hour and climb up a 20-degree incline.
The Halo all-terrain hoverboard has a range of 10 miles and a charging time of around 2.5 hours.
Tracking your battery life is easy with the mobile app, which you can also use to track your speed and distance, to pick a route, or to simply power on and off the hoverboard.
Of course, you can also play your favorite tunes with the admittedly great Bluetooth speaker. I personally used it to listen to my new favorite genre, Japanese rap, more specifically MIYACHI and Hideyoshi – what can I say, I like listening to all kinds of music.
The Halo board does not skimp on safety. It has three modes – beginner, normal, and advanced, each with their own level of difficulty. It goes without saying, but for new riders, obviously, they should start with the beginner mode.
The hoverboard is also UL-certified and it has fireproof batteries for an extra layer of safety. If you are looking for a premium brand with a lot to offer, then this is the perfect choice.
- Great speed
- Great range
- Safe
- Luxurious price
10. Razor Hovertrax 2.0 – Best Hoverboard for Adults Overall
The Hovertrax 2.0 is by far the most popular and most well-built hoverboard currently on the market. It has memorable design as well as tremendous value. It is a premium-quality self-balancing scooter with a budget-friendly price.
The Razor Hovertrax hoverboard has a silent 350-watt dual motor that has a top speed of 8 mph as well as an 8-mile range, not to mention you won’t hear this thing even if you are standing right next to it. It can handle a maximum weight of 220 lbs, perfect for the average adult. The Razor hoverboard is also extremely lightweight at 19.5 lbs, which is just 0.5 pounds heavier than the lightest hoverboard.
As for the lithium-ion battery, well, it is replaceable. If for some reason it runs out on you while you are enjoying a smooth ride, you can easily change it with a spare. Normally, it would be next to impossible to change batteries on the go, but Razor has made it a really easy thing to do.
Then there is the app which is not the best but, in some cases, is still better than all the others. However, you can still play your favorite tunes on the Bluetooth speaker.
A great thing about this self-balancing scooter for adults is that it has incredible safety features. Of course, it has the UL2272 certification as well as the UL2271 battery certificate. Much more than that, the Razor hoverboard’s exclusive EverBalance technology, which essentially acts as a smart self-balancing technology, makes it easier to mount and ensures a smooth ride.
The electric scooter also has a pair of non-slip rubber footpads, as well as a training mode which will put a limit on the max speed.
- Super safe
- Budget-friendly
- Replaceable battery
- Silent motor
- Medicare app
Best Hoverboard for Adults – Buyer’s Guide
For this buyer’s guide, I will go into some detail, but I won’t be able to cover every feature. If you are looking for a more in-depth version, you can always go to my best self-balancing scooters article. That is only if you want to find out more in greater detail.
Which Hoverboards Are Safe?
Now, this is a difficult question to answer. I would have to say none and most. You see, hoverboards are inherently dangerous. They are easy to fall off, and their batteries are unstable. There is a reason why self-balancing scooters are not allowed on planes. Also, since their inception, a great deal of care has been taken to make sure all the electric scooters out there are as safe as they can possibly be.
You see, there is a system in place to make sure the manufacturers meet specific standards. You might have seen the certificate that comes along with those standards, the most common being UL2272 which is only awarded to manufactures that pass a plethora of safety tests, including electronic, mechanical, and environmental. There is also the less common UL2271 certification which proves that the battery is explosion- and fire-protected. Now, what happens if a hoverboard does not have these certificates? Well, nothing really. There is no law requiring a product to have it, but you should never, and I mean NEVER, buy one that is not UL2272-certified.
Most hoverboards also have additional safety features for extra protection, such as non-slip footpads and smart, self-balancing technology. Some go the extra mile and have additional software that protects your hoverboard and warns you when it can’t. You should take your time when choosing a hoverboard and look properly at its safety features.
Weight Limit
When buying a hoverboard, you should also consider the weight limit as it too plays a part in your safety. It goes without saying, but you should never exceed the maximum weight capacity. In fact, you should never even come close to it, which may put extra strain on your self-balancing scooter which it may not handle. So if you are planning on riding your hoverboard with a heavy backpack or something like it, you should make sure not to exceed the maximum limit.
Now, generally, the max limit is around the 200-lbs range, but some go lower, and some can go up to 300+ lbs.
If for some reason a hoverboard does not list the maximum weight, then it won’t hurt to email the company about it and ask. That also goes for any information that they might have failed to show.
Speed
Now, we have speed. When it comes to how fast a self-balancing scooter is, you might think that it depends slowly on the motor power, and while that places a large part, other factors like the battery and wheels, not to mention the load, will play a part.
In general, most hoverboards are in the 6–10 mph range. The more budget-friendly versions are a bit slower than the more luxurious ones. Of course, there are some that can go even faster, but those are a bit of a rarity.
The speed will also be a factor in the slope your hoverboard can go upon. Most are capable of pushing through a 10–30-degree incline, and you should definitely not exceed the given limit. Also, remember to take your time on your first hill. There’s no need to rush it.
Battery
One last extremely important factor to consider is, of course, the battery. Now, most self-balancing scooters are equipped with lithium ion batteries, and those can be pretty dangerous and explosive. So, as mentioned before, it is very important that your hoverboard is UL-certified. You should never, and I mean never, buy one that doesn’t have this certificate, even if it resembles a cheap Hovertrax.
When looking at the batteries, you should know that a proper one will have a decent life with a short charging time. More often than not, you should look for a hoverboard that takes around 1–3 hours to fully charge and up to 1 hour of battery life or more.
The battery will also determine the range of your self-balancing scooter. Most hoverboards can run 7–15 miles on a single charge, so that will give you some perspective. However, if you are thinking of going on a longer trip, you should definitely look into a much higher range or a brand that allows you to change it if it runs out and recharge it when you go back home.
